Program & Services

Our Services

  • Toddlers between the ages of one and three who display signs of red flags for developmental delays and have been recommended to start early intervention.
  • Preschool-aged children between the ages of four and eight who have been identified with autism, intellectual disabilities, behavioral challenges and/or other developmental delays that impact their ability to communicate, develop social relationships, learn, and interact with their families and community.
  • Preschool-aged children, who are unable to access the mainstream preschool curriculum and will benefit learning in a small, individualized group with highly specialized instruction.
  • Children coping with behavioral issues that may impede their social and academic development If your child has any of the early warning signs of developmental delays, please seek help right away so that he or she can receive appropriate intervention services as early as possible.
  • Early intervention can be remedial or preventive in nature. Intervening early emphasizes intervening early in the life of the child and research has shown that, through early identification and appropriate intervention, we can significantly change the course of a child’s life, improve their educational outcomes and encourage success.

Our Curriculum

  • At the Bee Hive Developmental Center, emphasis is placed on 13 curricular areas integral to the needs and development of young children. We use an integrated curriculum to unify all subjects and experiences, to form meaningful connections. While the curriculum goals are obtained from a combination of research-based sources, including The Carolina Curriculum and Brigance Inventory of Early Development, additional goals are derived from selected early childhood supporting programs and combined to develop a holistic plan for every child.
  • We begin each day by reading the main theme book, which is further integrated into all other curricular areas. For example, by using “The Very Busy Spider” as the main theme book, children might explore topic words and sentence building during literacy, count and add spiders during Numeracy, build a spider web during creative arts, and learn about parts of a spider during science. All activities will be modified and supplemented with visual aids or manipulatives and tailored to meet the child’s current needs.
  • The emphasis of social skills, positive work habits, and language and communication skills are also integrated throughout teaching periods through the different curricular areas.
  • A combination of teacher-directed learning, child-centered choice, and small-group interaction with tailored made follow-up activities and learning centers provide each child with a foundation for developing essential skills. Direct teaching during Circle Time allows for specific concepts, vocabulary, language forms, and information to be taught. Child-centered choice allows the child to make independent decisions within his/her environment, thereby increasing independence and initiative. The small-group time is specifically dedicated to teaching group skills and work habits while using the curriculum to facilitate these skills.
